1½ DAYS SPECIAL TOUR

DAY ONE

10:00 am: We will pick you up from your hotel in Kilifi area or from the transit center in town. The drive takes about 15 to 30 minutes, and you will see the Kilifi district headquarters, beautiful scenery and palm trees, and lovely cottages on your way to Gosana Nature & Culture Reserve. You will also see the nearby Indian Ocean with its beautiful white sandy beaches, and feel the coolness of the Bofa area fresh sea breezes. Upon arrival at Gosana, you will be welcomed with a glass of our Gosana special juice as your briefing commences. Check-in takes about an hour, and then we will take you on a guided nature walk through the reserve.

12:00 noon: Lunch will be served at the Marya restaurant in the middle of the reserve on the rock bluff, which gives you a view over much of the reserve. Lunch takes about an hour, and as you eat, you will enjoy watching cultural drumming and dancing, performed by our talented local artists. If you are tired from a long journey, you can go for a rest at your eco-camp or take a self-guided nature walk at your own leisure. While in the park you may come across Common Ostriches, Helmeted Guinea Fowls, ponds teeming with fish, antelopes, Kirk’s Dik Diks, a monkey, praying mantids, many birds and trees. Many of the trees are labeled so you can learn their names and local uses. You may also visit the butterflies we raise among the plants and flowers in our greenhouse.

7:00 to 9:00 p.m: A “bush dinner” will be prepared and served under the stars, with more cultural performances such as drumming and dancing. Then you will retire to your own “eco-camp” where we know you will find the peace and quiet conducive to a restful sleep. Our eco-camps have large beds protected by floor-to-ceiling mosquito nets, and each of the 4 shelters has its own private shower, sink and toilet. The eco-camp shelters are constructed using appropriate low-tech local methods and materials. Bases made from the local rock support wood pole frames which are covered by woven mats and grass bundles. Security is provided by a gated wall enclosing the entire compound, and 2 security guards

DAY TWO
05:30-07:00 a.m. This is the best time of the day for bird-watching and listening to the lovely songs of the many birds that find refuge in our reserve. You can roam the grounds, or bring your binoculars or good eyesight to the restaurant on the rock bluff for an exceptional vantage point. Then you may return to your camp for a shower or short rest before breakfast.

07:30 to 09:30 am: Your full breakfast is served at Marya Restaurant. Check-out time is 10:00 am, when our guests return to their various places of residence.
